The ENERGY STAR® Ceiling Fan 4.0 specifications will go into effect June 15, 2018 – this includes major changes to the efficacy requirements.
These new specifications create a series of concerns for suppliers and manufactures. It is feared that only ceiling fans with DC motors will be able to achieve the requirements, which are significantly more expensive, a cost that consumers may not want to pay. Its too soon to tell if consumers will choose the cheaper fans without the ENERGY STAR® rating or if the rebates will make the extra cost of the DC fan the same as cheaper AC motor fans.
Good news is there is a grandfather period for consumers – if the fans were purchased before the effective date (June 15, 2018) customers can still certify them with ENERGY STAR® and get the rebate. Tell your customers buy now June 15th is right around the corner!
